Editorial: Super Mario Bros: The Movie

I am a man who loves him some good-bad movies; I’ve formed a group around watching them and I attempt to get this group whipped together at least once every two weeks. It’s something I deeply enjoy doing and I figured that I would dive into that by looking at a movie that holds a very special place in my instance of this long-standing tradition. This was actually the first good-bad movie I was able to organize with multiple people. Before it, I had occasionally watched good-bad movies by myself ...

Turbowave to the Max: An ode to 80’s inspired media

The 80’s are a fascinating and iconic time in the history of the US-neon, synth, cocaine and some incredible movies and other media came out at the time as well as a swath of crime and gang violence that informed a lot of the identity of that decade. You can tell a lot about the type of society by the media they make, and the 80’s are no exception. The 80’s were before my time and yet for many, yours truly included, they still serve as such a fascinating cultural fusion of interesting themes, id...

GM3434’s list of E3 games that look pretty swell

Ah, another E3 has come and gone with its promises of goodies to drop into our laps and crap to be thrown in our faces in a few months times. There’s many a thing to discuss in terms of what came out but for now I thought I’d start by listing a few games and whatnot that make me excited to get my hands on. I may update or alter this list as time goes on but I figure it’d be nice to start out with a few of my favorites. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus  Wolfenstein: The New Orde...

On Review Scores

In March 2017, Jim Sterling reviewed Breath of the Wild and gave the game a seven out of ten. This caused a huge outcry, both across the internet and even on sites that I hang out regularly on which doesn’t happen that often. My problem with people’s reaction was not mere disagreement but the way some people expressed their disagreement-I saw people call him a fucking idiot, say he was shit at games, DDOS’d his site till it went down, and attack his credibility as a games reviewer. R...

Thoughts on: Specter of Torment

Specter of Torment is the second of the DLC campaigns to come from Yacht Club games and as you might imagine, its good! But that does come with some caveats and opinions on the matter of course. So without further delay, lets get into my thoughts on this particular campaign. Story Specter Knight is a prequel to the main Shovel Knight campaign and focuses on the titular Specter Knight. Resurrected by the Enchantress, hes tasked with gathering up The Order of No Quarter and upon doing so will rega...

Thoughts on Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows

I am a science man and this you may well know-hell, my avatar is of bacteria most of the time so it’s not exactly hard to noodle out. Hence playing as a scientist character pretty great as are his amusing quotes and flippant attitude. He’s an entertainingly giddy character with a lot of personality and his personality comes through his playstyle and customization as well as the layout of his lair. His relationship with his other comrades is also fun, and he has a dedicated dance button…that does...

Specter of Torment Releasing on the 25th for Vita and PS4

As I’ve noted before, I really liked Shovel Knight and found it to be a great product to come out of the kickstarter boom years ago. Over the past few years they’ve been working on two new campaigns-one being Plague of Shadows and the other being Specter of Torment. I really enjoyed Plague of Shadows and I’ve been looking forward to finally getting my hands on Specter of torment when it hit the PlayStation Vita. And as noted by this site, Specter of Torment has several differen...

Upcoming Game Releases | January 2017

It has occurred to me in the past that I have no idea what games are coming out most months. It is time to rectify that and bring you all with me into the future! Near the beginning of every month I’m going to list out the upcoming games (generally in order) with a video and perhaps some of my thoughts on them if I have any. As a caveat I’m usually not going to include ports. Unless I start having more free time, then I probably will.

Rico’s Games of the Year (2016)

I generally feel like there is some level of pressure to have surprises on a GOTY list. I’m gonna be flat out with you, you won’t be finding any of those today (I imagine). The structure will be pretty simple, first I’m listing all the games I played this year. It’s not super diverse in 2016 but there are a fair number of games on this list that I really enjoyed. The ones I didn’t like I at least appreciated on some level. Which, who knows, maybe I’ll write ab...

Gamemaniac3434’s GOTY list

Ah yes, another year passes by. Gonna be honest-in regards to politics, celebrities dying and random other stuff I’m sure, it’s been a kind of shitty year. In regards to games however, it’s been quite a good year! It’s been a year of D’s and surprises, with games that I wanted being somewhat disappointing and games I didn’t really have interest in kicking all sorts of ass. Here I will put my thoughts to paper, and sum it all up. Also its probably obvious, but if it’s not, this is for games I pla...
